Recrutement campaigner chez 350.org

350.org is building a global grassroots climate movement to hold our leaders accountable to the realities of science and the principles of justice. It’s a big job, and we’re looking for super smart, strategic, driven people to get it done.

That movement is rising from the bottom up all over the world, and is uniting to create the solutions that will ensure a better future for all. Our online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions bring together a global network active in over 188 countries.

At 350.org, you’ll work with a team of brilliant, fierce colleagues, tackling one of the greatest issues of our time, in a flexible and collaborative environment. Learn more about who we are, what we stand for, and where we’re going : https://350.org/jobs/?gh_jid=3161588&fbclid=IwAR1HWw9g0m70eXuFeyz97ASbqDpy645lAG0GJYXTY7OW5RxZeYIdzejZ8bA

Paris, France

With momentum for action on climate change growing across France, 350.org is looking to recruit a talented campaigner with a passionate commitment to climate justice. In this role, you would help us grow, engage and assist our network of followers, supporters and organisers, in pursuit of our goal to keep fossil fuels in the ground and cut off finance flows to the fossil fuel industry.

This is a full-time position, based in Paris, France. The starting date is flexible between August and September 2021. The deadline for applying is June 16, 2021.

About 350.org

350.org is building a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis. Our online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions are led from the bottom up by thousands of volunteer organizers in over 188 countries. 350.org works hard to organize in a new way—everywhere at once, using online tools to facilitate strategic offline action. We want to be a laboratory for the best ways to strengthen the climate movement and catalyze transformation around the world. The values that guide and drive our work are listed here.

Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

We recognise that the climate crisis strikes unequally, and hits the hardest among working class people, women, non-binary and gender non-conforming people, trans people, black people, indigenous people, people of colour, disabled people, people from the Global South, LGBTQIA people, people with mental health conditions. We believe those communities must be centred in the work we do, and we also note that they are currently underrepresented in the climate justice movement and want to do what we can to correct this. We therefore strongly encourage applications from people with those identities or who are members of other communities impacted disproportionally by environmental, social, and economic injustice.

About the role

The France Campaigner will recruit and support people to take action for climate justice, using digital communications and campaigns for our supporters online, and targeted support to local activists to organise campaigns and mobilise offline.

The France Campaigner will work with and report to the France team leader.

Main responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of 350’s strategies in France and Europe (10%)
  • Lead and implement 350 France’s online engagement strategy (55 %)
  • Develop engagement strategies to increase the reach and impact of our campaigns through our email list and social media channels, and to bring new people into our network, including people from backgrounds currently underrepresented in our network and the wider French climate movement
  • Write emails to our supporters to inspire people to take action online and offline
  • Produce online content & resources such as blogs, webpages and action guides to help communicate about our campaigns and to support local organising
  • Support offline organising and mobilisations (30%)
  • Establish and support the development of a volunteer group in Paris focused on
  • fossil fuel finance
  • Help to plan and promote creative campaign actions and mobilisations, in collaboration with a diverse range of partners and groups across France.
  • Work with others to help make our organising and mobilising more inclusive and accessible, and to increase the diversity of partner organisations and groups that we collaborate with
  • With the support of colleagues, consultants, and/or partner organisations, develop and deliver training sessions for our network and allies in France
  • Other (5%)
  • You may occasionally be asked to recruit and manage short-term staff or contractors
  • You may occasionally be asked to contribute work towards 350.org’s overall mission that is outside of standard responsibilities and instead relies solely on geographic location or work capacity.

What might a typical day in this job look like?

  • Working from home or from our office in central Paris, you might start the day with a check-in with your colleagues in the 350 Europe team, sharing key updates and priorities for the week, and getting input from one another on any particular challenges you’re facing.
  • Next up, you need to take a bit of time to give input on a proposal for a new digital action targeting the European Central Bank, looking at how it could be adapted to work well for our audiences in France. You’d be working on this with 350 Europe’s digital specialists and our regional finance campaign lead.
  • You’ll probably then spend a bit of time going through emails and Slack messages (Slack is the online platform we use to communicate and organise within 350.org).
  • After lunch you might spend some time developing a plan to distribute a digital story-telling project that you’re working on with the 350 Africa team, showing how European finance is driving fossil fuel development in Africa and how activists in both Africa and Europe are trying to end this.
  • Later you might have a call with a grassroots group in Paris, helping them to plan an action targeting a major fossil fuel company…
  • And then, if you’ve got any time and energy left, you might help your colleague write and send an email to all our supporters in France, persuading them to join a group to organise for an action for the next AGMs season.

Required qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in a grassroots group, civil society organisation or any other setting relevant to the nature of this role
  • A dedication to support and strengthen social, economic and environmental justice movements and a strong motivation to help stop the fossil fuel industry.
  • Experience in and ability to make decisions that promote and increase justice, diversity, equity and inclusion – and an understanding of how to work across differences of culture and identities (particularly in multicultural and multi-class contexts) with integrity and sensitivity.
  • Willingness and ability to learn how to use new digital campaigning tools.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in French, with the ability to communicate complex ideas and stories in a simple and easy to understand way.
  • Strong skills in working on and managing projects, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines, and working collaboratively.
  • Able to work in English (reading, speaking and writing)

Desired qualifications

These are not required and we know that no one person can fulfill all of them!

  • Experience of planning and implementing campaigns for environmental, social or economic justice
  • Experience of working with and supporting volunteer groups and networks.
  • Experience of recruiting, organising, training, and coaching volunteers.
  • Experience of developing and delivering user journeys for online supporters
  • Experience in developing compelling online content (written and visual) for web and social media
  • Familiarity with some or all of the digital tools used by 350.org (e.g. ActionKit, Action Network, ControlShiftLabs, WordPress, Buffer, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Storify, Animoto)

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working both independently and in teams, highly responsive, and able to lead initiatives as well as take direction from others.

Compensation: EUR 55,800 / year
